Fire shutters offer protection which lasts up to 4 hours longer than standard shutter doors. Automatically operated, they can have one of three diffent systems.
A fusible link sees the heat from a fire melting solder connected to the circuit, which then sets the motor trip switch, causing the fire shutter to descend at a certain pace.
Or, the fire shutter doors can be connected to the fire alarm system, so that it descends when the alarm goes off.
The third option also connects to the fire alarm, but has a delayed onset and produces its own alarm sound, thereby warning people in the vicinity that the fire shutter is about to close.
A fusible link involves the use of solder as connection in the circuit: heat radiated from a nearby fire causes the solder to melt and this activates the motor to trip into neutral allowing the shutter to come down at a controlled speed.
Building regulations are quite strict when it comes to fire doors and fire shutters, so it is imperative that you have the right equipment or you may be forced to shut down.
